Knoop doorhakken
Voor de zomervakantie was ik nog aan het twijfelen of ik wel of niet naar Australie zou gaan. Ik wilde eerst zekerheid hebben. Die zekerheid heb ik echter niet kunnen krijgen. Maar omdat ik lesgeef bij twee turnverenigingen, Wilskracht en DEV, moest ik wel doorgeven of ik vanaf januari/februari nou wel of niet een half jaar weg ging, in verband met vervanging voor dat half jaar. Toen heb ik de knoop doorgehakt en gezegd dat ik van plan was om te gaan.

Vakkenpakket
Ik heb overleg gehad met mijn differentiatiebegeleider, Freek Stam, om te vragen of het goed was dat ik als differentiatiestage geen 'stage loop', maar ga studeren. Gelukkig voor mij was hij het daarmee eens. 
Vervolgens moest ik een vakkenpakket samenstellen. Deze heb ik kunnen vinden op http://ccdb.newcastle.edu.au/courseinfo/displayprogram.cfm?docid=219&FOS=5&UGPG=13 en op http://studinfo3.newcastle.edu.au/cts/handbook/handbookSubjectSearch.cfm. De vakken die ik op het moment heb gekozen zijn: Health 2A, PE Studies 3, Professional Experience 1 en Sports Science 3. Dit zijn vakken uit het 2e jaar van de opleiding. Ik weet niet of ik deze vakken mag volgen. Ik wacht nog op bevestiging uit Australie.

IELTS
Voordat ik kan gaan studeren aan The University of Newcastle, moet ik de IELTS http://www.bltc.nl/nl/ielts_d.htm gemaakt hebben. Dit is een test om je Engelse vaardigheid te toetsen. In Newcastle willen ze wel dat je in staat bent om het onderwijs te kunnen volgen. In Newcastle stellen ze dan ook als eis dat je de IELTS hebt gedaan. Zelf heb ik een 7 voor mijn Engels op VWO-niveau. Dit is echter niet voldoende voor de mensen in Newcastle. Ben je dus van plan om in Newcastle te gaan studeren, dan zul je de IELTS moeten doen. Wees hier dan ook op tijd mee. Er schijnt een nog al lange wachttijd te zijn.  

Inmiddels heb ik deze test op 4 december gedaan en na 2 weken kreeg ik de uitslag: een 7 voor alle onderdelen, dus gemiddeld ook een 7! 
De test bestaat uit vier onderdelen: Academic writing (let op dat je Academic hebt!), Listening, Reading, Interview. Het interview wordt opgenomen op tape.
Ik vond dat het best te doen was. Als voorbereiding heb ik een Engels boek gelezen (The 13 and a half lives of Captain Bluebear, Walter Moers, 1999) en best veel naar de BBC gekeken.

1. IELTS test

First of all, you have to take an English test. The University wants to know if you understand the English language. This test can be taken at British Language Training Centre in Amsterdam. You have to take the IELTS test, and choose for the Academic module. The costs of this test are Euro 160,-. Unfortunately, a good mark for English at HAVO or VWO-level is not enough. The University wants the results of the IELTS test.

You also can take the TOEFL test, but I do not have much information about that test. The University of Newcastle also accepts the results of the TOEFL test. What I have heard about the TOEFL test, is that you will have less time for the writing part, than with the IELTS test.

2. Courses

3. Study Abroad Application Form

Important dates:

January (Trimester 1) must ensure that their application form reaches the University before 15 November in the preceding year.

February must ensure that their application form reaches the University before 31 December in the preceding year.

May (Trimester 2) must ensure that their application form reaches the University before 31 March of the year concerned.

July must ensure that their application form reaches the University before 15 May of the year concerned.

September (Trimester 3) must ensure that their application form reaches the University before 15 July of the year concerned.

4. On Campus / Off Campus Accommodation

5. Student Visa

Have you received a letter or email with the Confirmation of Enrolment? Then you have to apply for a student visa. You can only get your student visa via the internet. You do not have to go to the Australian Embassy in The Hague. If you need help with your student visa, you can contact them of course.

6. Buy your ticket
